The Laboratory of Food Crops, Institute Tropical Agriculture, UPM is one of the leading centres for the research of food crops in Malaysia. Its research activities form a fully integrated programme across the major scientific disciplines. The research includes a wide range of basic and applied studies leading to technological innovation and commercialization.

Objective

The objective of the laboratory is to conduct research on food crops within the concept of environmentally-safe and sustainable agriculture production.

Protected Environment Agriculture :
  • Yield and quality enhancement of high value vegetables crop .
  • Utilization of bio-based resources in pest, disease management and yield for sustainable production
    system.
  • Pre and post harvest technology of vegetables and ornamentals.

Water and Nutrient Efficiency in Food Crop Production :
  • Physiological approaches for improve water use and nutrient efficiency in rice cultivation.
  • Rice rhizosphere exploration for yield improvement.

Integrated Fruit Production :
  • Pre and post harvest manipulation for yield and quality enhancement in fruit crop.
  • Physiological approaches for sustainable fruit production
  • Physiological, biochemical and molecular approaches for management of Fusarium wilt of banana
